Frank Goldsmith () was born in Strood, Kent, the eldest child of Frank and Emily (''née'' Brown) Goldsmith.〔England & Wales, Birth Index: 1837-1983. England and Wales Civil Registration Indexes. General Register Office, London, England.〕 His father was originally from Tonbridge. His parents married sometime between October and December 1901,〔England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1837-1983.
